Tottenham Triumphs Over Arsenal 1-0 In Pre-Season Friendly Thanks To Pape Sarr's Stunning Goal

In a pre-season friendly, Tottenham defeated Arsenal 1-0 with Pape Sarr scoring a stunning goal. Despite Arsenal's chances, they struggled to break through Spurs' defence.

Thomas Frank celebrated his first north London derby victory as Tottenham Hotspur edged Arsenal 1-0 in a pre-season friendly held in Singapore. Pape Sarr's remarkable goal from near the halfway line just before halftime distinguished the teams in this rare fixture outside the UK. Spurs had earlier hit the post three times, but Sarr's effort, which came after dispossessing Myles Lewis-Skelly and lofting the ball over David Raya, proved decisive.

Despite creating more opportunities, Arsenal found it challenging to penetrate Tottenham's defence. Kai Havertz managed their sole shot on target in the 70th minute. Viktor Gyokeres made his debut late in the second half but failed to make a significant impact as Spurs maintained their lead. The expected goals (xG) metric showed Spurs with 0.34 compared to Arsenal's 1.03, highlighting Arsenal's inefficiency.

Tottenham Beats Arsenal in Pre-Season Match

Pape Sarr not only scored Tottenham's only goal but also excelled in midfield. He completed all five of his tackles, outperforming every other player on the field. Additionally, he won nine out of twelve duels and drew two fouls. His passing accuracy was impressive at 95.5%, second only to Lucas Bergvall among Spurs' starters, showcasing his potential for a key role under Frank this season.

Mikel Arteta's team will now head back to England for their next friendly against Villarreal. Meanwhile, Tottenham continues their Asia tour with an upcoming match against Newcastle United.

This encounter marked a significant moment for Thomas Frank as he secured his first derby win against Arsenal. The match highlighted both teams' strengths and weaknesses ahead of their respective seasons. While Spurs capitalised on their chances effectively, Arsenal will need to refine their attacking strategies moving forward.
