Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta Remains Alert To January Transfer Opportunities Amid Fixture Challenges

Mikel Arteta emphasises Arsenal's focus on potential January transfers while managing injuries and preparing for crucial matches against Newcastle and Manchester United.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has indicated that the club is keeping an eye on potential transfer opportunities this month. Currently sitting second in the Premier League, Arsenal faces a crucial series of matches. They will play Newcastle United in the EFL Cup semi-finals on Tuesday, followed by encounters with Manchester United in the FA Cup and Tottenham in the league.

Arteta confirmed that Ethan Nwaneri, who recently scored his second Premier League goal against Brighton, will be sidelined for several weeks due to a muscular injury. Additionally, Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling remain unavailable. Kai Havertz is uncertain for the Newcastle match. Arteta is open to new signings in January but insists they must guarantee improvement.

Arteta Discusses Arsenal's January Transfer Plans

When questioned about potential signings this month, Arteta stated: "That hasn't changed - again the focus is our players. Whatever is in the market, we're very alert, but the priority is working with the players that we have at the moment and [the Newcastle game], which is a big night for us. It's not a yes, it's not a no!"

Arteta emphasised that Arsenal maintains high standards and seeks players from their academy or those who can significantly impact the team. He believes merely adding players without clear benefits does not help.

Kieran Tierney has been rumoured to leave Arsenal, but Arteta clarified: "There is absolutely no news, Kieran is our player." Arsenal trails Liverpool by five points in the league standings. Despite this gap, Arteta enjoys the current campaign.

"I love it," he expressed. "We are in all the competitions; we are where we want to be in most of them. Obviously, in the league for a lot of circumstances, we are not where we want to be which is top, I understand that."

Arteta stressed the importance of striving for daily improvement without making excuses. He acknowledged challenges but remains committed to maintaining Arsenal as a competitive team.
