Arsenal started off the Emirates Cup in a royal manner as the Gunners decimated Bayer Leverkusen at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday (August 7).

Mikel Arteta's men played their very first pre-season match in England since a closed-door friendly earlier, and showcased their mettled against the reigning Bundesliga champions.

Arsenal vs Bayer Leverkusen - As it Happened

Arsenal started the match in a fantastic manner. The North London club made a stormy start and got their reward very early in the match.

Oleksandr Zinchenko scored in the 8th minute of the match with a sublime finish as Emirates erupted. The Arsenal fans were barely seated after the celebration as the Gunners doubled their advantage, this time with a sublime finish from Leandro Trossard. German attacker Kai Havertz got the assists for the first two goals.

The hosts came close to extending their lead but Matej Kovar denied them. But the lead finally was tripled as Gabriel Jesus slotted past a superb effort from outside the box. The Gunners went to the break with a three-goal lead.

In the second half, Arteta made many changes but the Gunners drew blood again. In the 65th minute, Bukayo Saka's cross ricocheted to Kai Havertz, who made no mistake to score the fourth goal for the Gunners.

Adam Hlozek got one back for the German club 15 minutes from time but that was just a consolation as the Londoners secured a fantastic victory.

Mikel Arteta didn't use his new signing Riccardo Calafiori in the match and the Italian is expected to feature in the final Emirates Cup match against Lyon on Sunday (August 11).
