Arsenal vs Chelsea: Mikel Arteta gives crucial Injury Updates ahead of London Derby

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has delivered a mixed but largely encouraging injury update ahead of Sunday's Premier League meeting with Chelsea, with Jurrien Timber emerging as a potential option for the Emirates clash.

Timber has yet to feature for Arsenal this season after dealing with a groin problem, but the Dutch defender has stepped up his rehabilitation and is now training with the first team. Arteta confirmed that the 25-year-old is in a good physical condition, although a final decision on his involvement will be taken after Saturday's session.

"He's in really good condition at the moment. He's been training with us now, he's in a good place," Arteta said at the pre-match press conference on Friday (September 4).

When asked whether Timber could feature against Chelsea, the Arsenal boss added: "We will decide again tomorrow after training."

There was also positive news regarding Bruno Guimaraes, who picked up a knock during Arsenal's 1-0 victory over Aston Villa. The midfielder missed Thursday's training session, but Arteta expects him to return to training on Saturday.

"He had a knock against Villa in the previous game. He's been assessed, but probably tomorrow he will be OK to train," Arteta said.

Declan Rice, who was substituted during the Villa game, is also available for selection, easing concerns surrounding Arsenal's midfield ahead of the London derby.

The situation surrounding Cristhian Mosquera, however, remains less certain. The defender was forced off against Villa and has not trained since, although Arteta indicated that the decision was precautionary rather than a serious setback.

"It was more precaution than anything else. We have to see tomorrow in the session how he feels," Arteta said.

William Saliba continues to Recover

Meanwhile, Arsenal remain without William Saliba, who is recovering from a back injury and is expected to be sidelined for an extended period.

Arsenal host Chelsea on Sunday, September 6, with both teams having won their opening two Premier League matches.
