Arsenal vs Monaco: Mikel Arteta confirms Forgotten Star set for Return in Champions League clash

By MyKhel Staff

Ahead of the Champions League clash against Monaco on Wednesday (December 11), Arsenal are suffering a plethora of injuries.

Gabriel Magalhaes, Riccardo Calafiori are already out of contention, while a few more have bitten the dust since the stalemate at Fulham.

Oleksandr Zinchenko seems to be injured - along with Ben White and Thomas Partey. With Takehiro Tomiyasu already nursing an injury, Arsenal are extremely depleted at their wing-back positions. To make matters worse, Jurrien Timber also missed Tuesday's training season.

It has been a season of defensive injuries for the Gunners, and their manager Mikel Arteta confirms things have gotten worse and he will have the key men unavailable for the upcoming Monaco encounter.

"We have to manage a lot of players. Some of them won't be fit for tomorrow, some of them are still doubts. We have 24 hours to make those decisions. Hopefully, we make the right ones," Arteta said at the pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

Amid the issues, the Gunners boss may reinstate Kieran Tierney into the squad. Tierney is a part of the team this season but is yet to make an appearance for them. The Scotland international has been down the pecking order but with all the unavailable players, a slot is likely to have opened up for Tierney, and the Spaniard confirmed that he is willing to give him the opportunity.

"He's ready, he's training really well and he will have an opportunity for sure. He's earned it for sure. He's willing to do it. And when that happens we have to give a chance," the Gunners manager said when asked about Tierney.

Arsenal have 10 points in five matches in the Champions League. A win against Monaco would almost confirm their berth in the knockouts and further solidify their chances of making it to the elusive top Eight, which shall place them directly in the Round of 16.
