Arsenal vs Newcastle: Three Things we learned from an elite Gunners victory

Arsenal continued their excellent start to the 2024 calendar year with another stellar victory, this time at the expense of Newcastle United.

The Gunners secured a comprehensive 4-1 victory over the Magpies to keep themselves within touching distance of the Premier League summit spot, as they remain 3rd with just two points from league leaders Liverpool.

Arsenal

Sven Botman scored an own goal to open the Arsenal scoring, and then it was Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Jakub Kiwior who scored to seal the deal for the home team. Former Arsenal player Joe Willock scored a late consolation for Newcastle.

As the Gunners continued their juggernaut, there were a few striking components of the match which kept them going at the Emirates on Saturday.

Arsenal meant business from the start

Mikel Arteta's men went no holds barred from the start of the match. The pressing and the accuracy of it was excellent as the gunners completely eclipsed Newcastle in the first half. Apart from the serial attacks, players like Odegaard, Saka and others showcased their prowess over the visitors' players. After a disappointing defeat against Porto in the Champions League, it was the perfect response from Mikel Arteta's team and they executed the plans properly.

Bukayo Saka continues his Purple Patch

Bukayo Saka scored his 13th Premier League goal this season and continues his rich vein of form in the league. The Arsenal winger has been a class apart and now has netted 7 goals in the last five Premier League matches.

Saka, on the right wing, was a livewire and tormented the Newcastle defenders. The 22-year-old came close to scoring in the first half but was denied by Karius, but compensated that with a superb curled finish in the 2nd half.

The England star has grown by stature in the last couple of seasons and he looks like the driving force for Mikel Arteta's team if they are to win the league this season.

Jakub Kiwior provides solidity on the Left

Jakub Kiwior had a superb game as a left-back for the Gunners. The Poland international has been filling in at that position in the absence of Oleksandr Zinchenko, but he looks like a class apart at the position.

Kiwior is offensively decent, but it is his defensive solidity which gives Arsenal a major boost. The 24-year-old won all of his aerial duels, made a few decent passes and never lost possession during the match. He topped that up with his first goal of the season as well.
