Arsene Wenger out by season end, confirm reports

The Londoners have also decided on top names as replacement for the Frenchman, with the likes of Carlo Ancellotti, Joachim Low, Brendan Rodgers and former Gunner Mikel Arteta on the short-list.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger signed a two year extension last summer

Bengaluru, February 28: Arsenal’s dismal performance in their humiliating 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final was the last nail in the coffin for Arsene Wenger.

Wenger, 68, still has another year left on his contract and reports suggest he is determined not to quit and wants to see out the final year. However, the Arsenal board will review Wenger's position at the end of the season, with his 22-year reign now under serious threat.

With the Premier League already out of reach and the top four finish looking like a distant dream, Arsenal are on the verge of missing Champions League football for the second year in a row.

After their dismal performances recently, no one would expect Arsenal to do any good in Europa League the competition where the Gunners are still alive.

The Londoners have also decided on top names as replacement for the Frenchman, with the likes of Carlo Ancellotti, Joachim Low, Brendan Rodgers and former Gunner Mikel Arteta on the short-list.

Meanwhile, AS Monaco’s Leonardo Jardim is also ready to take over at Arsenal if Wenger leaves at the end of the season.

The Independent say the Portuguese is keen for a new challenge having spent four years at Monaco, and is eyeing a move to the Emirates. He was the top candidate last year as well but Arsenal stayed loyal to the Frenchman and offered him a two-year extension.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright was highly critical of the manager and the board regarding the situation.

"The owner has to take a lot of blame for this," he said. "Kroenke does not care. If he cared, Wenger would not have got a two-year deal.

"Everyone else can start to see that is it getting to a point where Wenger needs to go. The owner has to be here, find out what is happening, how is this working, what are we going to do, how are we going to get back to where the fans want us to be.”
