Arsenal's manager, Mikel Arteta, has urged the club's young players to aim for a spot in the first team next season following their impressive performance against AC Milan. During their pre-season tour in Asia, Arsenal secured a 1-0 win over AC Milan in Singapore, with Bukayo Saka scoring the decisive goal in the 53rd minute. Despite having 23 shots and nine on target, Arsenal's expected goals (xG) was only 1.8.
New signings Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, and Kepa Arrizabalaga made their debuts for Arsenal. However, it was the performances of 15-year-olds Max Dowman and Marli Salmon that stood out. Arsenal ended the match with seven academy graduates on the field, including Jack Nichols, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri, Saka, and Reiss Nelson. Arteta praised Dowman and Salmon for their impact and suggested they might earn first-team opportunities if they continue to excel.

Arteta expressed his satisfaction with the young players' performance. "Very happy with all the kids," he said. "I think they are able to play at that level at 15 years old, in my opinion, because of the environment and culture that is within the team." He emphasized how a supportive environment boosts confidence and allows young talents to showcase their skills.
Arteta acknowledged that while it's uncertain if these youngsters will secure regular playing time, being part of the team helps them adapt to its dynamics and demands. He highlighted the importance of meeting high physical standards required at this level. "They are getting there and that gives them a good platform," Arteta noted.
On a less positive note for Arsenal, defender Gabriel experienced a minor setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury. He was absent from the squad alongside Jurrien Timber. Arteta explained this was a precautionary measure to ensure Gabriel is ready for the Premier League season's start.
"Gabi had a little niggle the other day in training," Arteta added. "Because the fact that he has been out so long as well we have to manage him." The manager mentioned varying conditions across different locations as factors necessitating careful management of Gabriel's return to action.
As Arsenal continues its pre-season preparations, Arteta remains focused on nurturing young talent while managing player fitness carefully. The team's blend of promising youth and experienced signings aims to strengthen their prospects for the upcoming season.
