Mikel Arteta has indicated that Kai Havertz's recent injury was bound to happen due to the intense demands on players. Havertz injured his hamstring during a training camp in Dubai, leaving Arsenal without a recognised centre forward for the rest of the season. The 25-year-old has netted 15 goals across all competitions, with nine in the Premier League.
Gabriel Martinelli, Arsenal's second-highest league scorer with six goals, is also sidelined. Arteta commented, "With the loads and minutes, it's inevitable, It's an accident waiting to happen." He noted that the demanding schedule poses challenges for explosive players like Havertz. The stress and accumulation of games contribute to such injuries.

Havertz leads Arsenal's squad in expected goals (xG) with 9.43, followed by injured teammates Martinelli and Bukayo Saka. With Gabriel Jesus also out for the season, Leandro Trossard becomes Arsenal's top fit scorer with four goals. Meanwhile, Gabriel Magalhaes, Ethan Nwaneri, and Thomas Partey each have three goals.
Despite these setbacks, Arteta believes his team is well-prepared for the challenges ahead. They have previously dealt with long-term injuries to key players like Martin Odegaard and Saka. "We were having a great camp in Dubai," Arteta said. "Then the injury happened unexpectedly; it's a big blow because of injuries we have."
Arteta remains optimistic about facing these challenges head-on. He stated, "Fortunately we have been through a lot this season; it's the challenge I have. We love it." This resilience will be crucial as they navigate the remainder of their campaign without several key players.
During January's transfer window, Arsenal explored options to bolster their attack but couldn't finalise any deals. They were linked with players like Matheus Cunha, Alexander Isak, and Evan Ferguson. Arteta acknowledged these difficulties but remained philosophical rather than frustrated.
"When you try your best and do everything you are capable of and do your homework," Arteta remarked, "you can have regrets but at least you know that you did it." This mindset reflects his determination to make the most of their current squad despite missing out on new signings.
The team's ability to adapt will be tested as they aim to finish strong despite these injury setbacks. Arsenal will need to rely on their existing squad depth and resilience as they push forward in their campaign.
