Ashley Cole is preparing for a first senior role in the dugout after being appointed Cesena head coach. The Serie B club has handed Cole a contract running until the end of the current season. Cesena confirmed the decision on 15 March 2026.
The 45-year-old inherits a side placed eighth in Serie B after a difficult recent stretch. Cesena have gone seven league games without a victory, a sequence that resulted in Michele Mignani leaving the post. Cole is tasked with steadying results while keeping promotion hopes alive.

Cesena highlighted the importance of the move in an official announcement. A club statement read: "The entire Cesena FC family is thrilled to welcome manager Ashley Cole to lead the Bianconeri first team and extends a warm welcome to him and his staff in Cesena, wishing them all the best of luck in this new adventure."
The club also shared the appointment through social media channels, presenting Cole to supporters.
Cole’s first competitive test with Cesena will arrive quickly. Cesena visit Mantova on Tuesday, giving Cole an immediate opportunity to influence tactics and selection.
Cole has been building towards this step since retiring from playing in 2019. Coaching positions have included roles with Derby County, Everton and Birmingham City, plus work with England. Cole also helped the Young Lions secure consecutive European Under-21 Championship titles alongside Lee Carsley.
The former left-back brings a long list of honours into the Cesena dressing room. Cole won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups during club stints in England. European success followed with both the Champions League and Europa League. Cole earned 107 England caps, becoming the Three Lions’ most-capped full-back, experience Cesena now hope will support a revival over the remainder of the Serie B campaign.
