Ashley Young signs contract extension with Manchester United

London, March 20: Manchester United have exercised the option to extend Ashley Young's current deal by triggering a one-year option in the versatile England wing back's contract, as per reports.

The English international has been a mainstay inclusion in Jose Mourinho's starting XI this season and the player has started 22 matches out 30 this term, ahead of Shaw, Rojo and Blind.

The former Aston Villa attacker only had six months left on his contract but his impressive display under Mourinho now have got him a further year at Old Trafford.

The 32-year-old last year was linked with a cash-rich move to China as well as to Premier League side Crystal Palace, West Ham, Watford etc and there were still speculations that the player might leave the club the next Summer.

But Young at that maintained that his dream is to remain at United till his career's end and United, for the time being, have given the England international an opportunity to live his dream for one more year.

Young joined United from Villa in 2011 as an attacker however for the last three years the player has slowly been deployed as a full-back.

The 32-year-old Young this season has been in fine form for United, keeping all the other options in the fullback out of the side and has played in 29 matches this season, scoring two goals and helping in five.

His impressive display also has given him his international call-up in Gareth Southgate's team for this month's friendly matches against the Netherlands and Italy.

The versatile English player who still has not been a regular England player last received a call-up for England in matches against Brazil and Germany in November last year.

Young has played 190 plus matches for United and has won one Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League each in his time at Old Trafford. He also has 31 England caps to his name.
