The Indian football team have had a rich history in the Asian Games. The Blue Tigers are participating in their 16th Asian Games.
India's journey in the Asian Games football arena started long back in 1951, when Asia's premier multi-sport event was played in New Delhi, India. India clinched the first place, giving a kick-start to its Golden Era.
Indian football team's journey in the next two editions of the games in 1954 and 1958 fetched them the fourth place, thereby securing its position amongst the top nations. The 1962 edition of the Asian Games saw India securing the gold medal again, demonstrating an exhilarating performance.

However, the journey became tougher in the subsequent editions, and the team went through a rough patch in the late 60s and early 70s. India didn't participate in 1990 and 1994 and then reached the 2nd round in 1998.
From the 2002 edition, the under-23 team has been taking part in the competition. They have so far never gone beyond the 2nd stage in this century, and will be hoping to conjure up a better performance in Hangzhou this year.
In 2002, 2006 and 2014 editions of the Asian Games, the Indian colts were eliminated from the first round. But in 2010 at the Guangzhou Asian Games, they reached the second stage and finished 14th out of 28 teams. In 2018, the Indian Olympic Association didn't allow the football team's participation.
