Asian Games 2023 men's football competition kicks off with the group stage fixtures on Tuesday (September 19) followed by the knockout stages that will conclude with the medals matches on October 7.
A totals of 21 teams, including India, South Korea, Japan and Saudi Arabia among others will do battle for the medals, starting with the group stage, which sees the teams divided into six groups. Not every group contains the same amount of teams as two teams pulled out of the tournament.

In the group stage, each team will play in single round-robin format with the top two on the respective group's points table heading into the knockout stage, which will start with the round of 16.
Apart from the top two from each group, four best third-placed teams also will get a chance to enter the round of 16, which kicks off on September 28 with the winners earning an entry into the quarterfinal, scheduled to take place on October 1.
The round of 16 and quarterfinal is pretty straightforward as the name suggests - it's a knockout, meaning the winner goes to the next stage, while the loser heads home. The next stage after quarter-final is the semifinals, which sees the winners of the last 8 match collide on October 4.
Unlike the round of 16 and quarter-final, the loser of the semifinals will do battle for the bronze medal with the winners of the last 4 clash battling for the gold medal. The medal matches will take place on October 7.
