Morgan Rogers Stars As Aston Villa Triumphs 2-1 Over Tottenham In FA Cup Clash

Morgan Rogers emerged as Aston Villa's hero, scoring a goal and providing an assist in their 2-1 win over Tottenham in the FA Cup at Villa Park. This defeat increased pressure on Tottenham's manager, Ange Postecoglou, whose hopes for a trophy now rest on the Europa League. Villa started strongly, with Rogers assisting Jacob Ramsey for an early goal that slipped past Antonin Kinsky.

Kinsky redeemed himself shortly after by saving Leon Bailey's curling shot. Spurs nearly equalised when Son Heung-min's close-range shot was brilliantly saved by Emiliano Martinez. The match became more intense after halftime, with Bailey forcing another save from Kinsky and Ramsey hitting the post with the rebound.

Villa extended their lead in the 64th minute. Donyell Malen's cross was cleared off the line by Pedro Porro, but Rogers capitalised by scoring from inside the box. Mathys Tel scored for Tottenham in stoppage time, converting Dejan Kulusevski's cross past Martinez, but Spurs couldn't find an equaliser.

Rogers has been outstanding this season for Aston Villa. His goal against Tottenham marked his 11th across all competitions this year. The 22-year-old has scored eight goals in his last eight home games at Villa Park. Since December, he leads Premier League players in goals at a single venue.

Rogers also contributed significantly to Ramsey's quick opener, which came just 57 seconds into the match. This was the fastest FA Cup goal by a Premier League team since Ilkay Gundogan's strike in the 2023 final for Manchester City against Manchester United.

Aston Villa's FA Cup Success

Aston Villa have now won both of their FA Cup matches this season (2-1 against West Ham and Tottenham). These victories match their total wins in the competition over the previous nine seasons combined (two wins, two draws, nine losses between 2015-16 and 2023-24).

Tottenham have been knocked out of the FA Cup before reaching the fifth round for two consecutive seasons, a situation they last faced during the 2014-15 campaign.
