Morgan Rogers Optimistic About Aston Villa's FA Cup Chances After Comeback Victory Over West Ham

Following a thrilling comeback against West Ham, Morgan Rogers expresses confidence in Aston Villa's FA Cup potential. The team's resilience in the second half highlights their capability to compete effectively in the tournament.

Aston Villa's recent FA Cup triumph over West Ham has sparked optimism among fans and players alike. Morgan Rogers expressed confidence in Villa's potential to win the cup, following their 2-1 victory in the third round. Lucas Paqueta initially put West Ham ahead, but Villa turned the game around with two goals in quick succession during the second half, marking a successful start for Graham Potter as West Ham's manager.

Despite a lacklustre first half without any shots on target, Villa rallied after the break. Amadou Onana equalised in the 71st minute, and Morgan Rogers secured the win shortly after. This victory marks Villa's first time eliminating a Premier League team from the FA Cup since their semi-final win against Liverpool in 2014-15. It also signifies their consecutive fourth-round appearances for the first time since 2014-16.

Aston Villa's FA Cup Chances Look Bright

The Villans last lifted a trophy when they won the EFL Cup in 1996 and have not claimed the FA Cup since 1956-57, finishing as runners-up twice since then. Rogers shared his thoughts with ITV Sport: "A bit of belief, we were a bit more patient [in the second half]. There was more forward-thinking." He emphasised that anything is possible in cup competitions due to their unpredictable nature.

Graham Potter's debut as West Ham manager ended in disappointment, continuing a trend where six of the last seven managers lost their first match. The Hammers have now exited at this stage for two consecutive seasons, mirroring their early exits between 2011 and 2014. Despite feeling unlucky about Villa's first goal from a controversial corner decision, Potter acknowledged his team's efforts.

Potter told BBC Sport: "It didn't look it live; we're surprised it was a corner. But the referee has given it." He praised his players' dedication despite limited preparation time and noted that they had chances towards the end but couldn't overcome Villa's strength.

Niclas Fullkrug suffered a concerning injury during the match, while Crysencio Summerville's condition appeared less severe. Potter remains hopeful for Summerville's swift recovery as West Ham prepares for an important game on Tuesday night.

Aston Villa’s recent success has reignited hopes of another FA Cup victory. Their ability to come from behind against top-tier teams showcases their resilience and determination. Meanwhile, West Ham faces challenges ahead as they regroup under new management amidst injury concerns.
