Unai Emery has expressed his intention to respect Graham Potter as the new manager of West Ham United. Potter, who previously managed Brighton and Chelsea, took over at West Ham following Julen Lopetegui's departure. Interestingly, Potter's last match with Chelsea was against Emery's Aston Villa in April 2023, where a 2-0 loss led to his exit from Stamford Bridge.
West Ham had a challenging start to the season under Lopetegui, leaving them in 14th place in the Premier League. Despite this, Emery believes that Potter can improve their situation. "West Ham have very good players. It is a good club as well," said the Spaniard. "It is not good news when they are changing one coach but, of course, now there is an opportunity for him."

Emery also shared updates about Aston Villa's squad ahead of their FA Cup third-round match at Villa Park. He confirmed that captain John McGinn would be unavailable for the game. Additionally, Emery mentioned potential new signings and provided information on Jaden Philogene's situation.
The midfielder is reportedly close to joining Ipswich Town. "I believe in Jaden Philogene, but we are always trying to do what is best for the squad, for the team and for the players," Emery stated. "If he is leaving, then it is for those three options."
Potter's return to management comes after nearly two years away from coaching roles. His appointment at West Ham marks a fresh chapter as he aims to steer the club towards better performances in upcoming matches.
Emery acknowledged Potter's previous successes in England and expressed confidence in his ability to succeed with West Ham. "We are going to respect West Ham, and we are going to respect Graham Potter because he was successful when he was coaching before here in England," Emery remarked. "I think he is going to do good work."
This managerial change at West Ham presents both challenges and opportunities for Potter as he seeks to make a positive impact on the team's performance in the league.
