Aston Villa staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Everton 3-2 at Villa Park, thanks to Jhon Duran's stunning goal and Ollie Watkins' brace. Despite taking an early lead, Everton remain without a point in the Premier League this season.
Dwight McNeil opened the scoring for Everton at 16 minutes, against the run of play. Eleven minutes later, McNeil assisted Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who headed in to double their lead. However, this advantage was short-lived as Aston Villa began their fightback.

Watkins responded before half-time by heading home a Lucas Digne cross from close range. This goal seemed to energise Aston Villa, setting the stage for an intense second half.
After the break, Watkins capitalised on a mistake by Jack Harrison to score his second goal. This equaliser brought Villa level and intensified the match's excitement. Jhon Duran then entered as a substitute at 69 minutes and made an immediate impact.
Seven minutes after coming on, Duran unleashed a powerful strike from 30 yards out, putting Villa ahead. His goal marked another crucial contribution from the bench this season.
Calvert-Lewin nearly equalised for Everton shortly after Duran's goal but saw his shot rebound off the crossbar. This miss ensured that Everton remained winless and rooted to the bottom of the table after four matches.
The defeat also means Everton are now only the second team in Premier League history to lose consecutive games after leading by two or more goals in both matches. The first team to do so was Bournemouth in October/November 2022.
This victory lifts Aston Villa into third place in the league standings, trailing Liverpool only on goal difference. It also marks the sixth time Villa have come back from two or more goals down in Premier League history.
Duran’s performance continues to impress; he has now scored three winning goals from the bench this season alone. No other player has achieved more winners as a substitute in a single Premier League campaign.
The result highlights Aston Villa's resilience and ability to turn games around under pressure. Meanwhile, Everton must find solutions quickly if they are to climb out of their current predicament.
