Atalanta Triumphs Over Roma 2-1 As Ibrahim Sulemana Scores Late Winner For Champions League Qualification

Ibrahim Sulemana emerged as the hero for Atalanta, scoring a crucial goal in the 76th minute to secure a 2-1 victory over Roma. This win ensured Atalanta's qualification for the Champions League. Ademola Lookman had earlier given Atalanta an early lead, but Bryan Cristante equalised for Roma with a header from Matias Soule's cross.

Sulemana's decisive strike came after he seized a loose ball outside the box and delivered a precise shot into the bottom-left corner. This marked his first Serie A goal and proved vital in maintaining Atalanta's position in the league standings. The team now sits third with 71 points, seven points clear of Juventus in fourth place.

Despite struggling at home earlier this year, Atalanta showcased an impressive attacking display against Roma. They had only managed eight points from nine home games before this match. However, they turned things around by generating 2.4 expected goals compared to Roma's 0.81.

Atalanta has now scored 101 goals across all competitions this season, marking the fifth time they have reached triple figures. Previous seasons where they achieved this feat include 2023-24 (106 goals), 2020-21 (111 goals), 2019-20 (116 goals), and 2018-19 (103 goals).

This defeat ended Roma's unbeaten run of 16 matches in the second half of the season, consisting of 12 wins and four draws. Their away form against Atalanta has been particularly poor, with five losses in their last six visits to Bergamo.

Gian Piero Gasperini might have hoped for better finishing from his side, as they only hit the target three times out of 16 attempts. Nevertheless, Sulemana's late goal dashed Roma's hopes of securing a top-four finish.
