Atalanta are gearing up for their Champions League clash against Club Brugge, despite missing key players. Gian Piero Gasperini, their coach, is not making excuses for the absences. The Italian team, last season's Europa League champions, will compete with Brugge over two legs to secure a spot in the last 16. Injuries have forced them to rely on goalkeeper Rui Patricio.
Gasperini confirmed that Rui Patricio will continue in goal due to Marco Carnesecchi's thigh injury. "Rui Patricio will play. We brought Carnesecchi but he is not at his best," Gasperini told reporters. The team has faced excellent performances but injuries have been a setback. They hope to recover Ademola Lookman and Sead Kolasinac soon, who have missed four games in ten days.

The injury list grew with Giorgio Scalvini and Gianluca Scamacca ruled out for the season due to shoulder and thigh injuries respectively. Atalanta narrowly missed automatic qualification for the last 16 of the competition after finishing ninth in the league phase with a 2-2 draw against Barcelona.
Reflecting on the upcoming match, Gasperini noted the advantage of playing at home in the return leg. "Let's go back to the formula of the old Champions League, with the return leg. Playing it at home may seem like a small advantage," he added. Competing in Europe has improved their approach to matches, but each game brings unique challenges.
Gasperini remains cautious about predicting Atalanta's chances against Brugge. "I don't believe in predictions, they are of little use," he said. He acknowledged Brugge as a tactically prepared team accustomed to winning and highlighted their defensive play against Manchester City.
Facing Club Brugge will be challenging as they maintain strong team concepts and intensity. Gasperini stressed that Atalanta must perform well since Brugge knows how to stay compact and utilise their individual strengths effectively.
The upcoming matches present an opportunity for Atalanta to demonstrate resilience despite their injury woes. With strategic planning and determination, they aim to overcome these hurdles and advance further in the competition.
