Atalanta extended a strong Serie A run with a 2-1 comeback win over Napoli at New Balance Arena, decided by an 81st-minute header from substitute Lazar Samardzic. The result stretched Atalanta's unbeaten league streak to nine matches and handed the defending Scudetto holders another setback away from home.
The defeat left Napoli 14 points behind leaders Inter in the title race, while AC Milan could also widen the gap on Antonio Conte's team. Napoli created enough chances to take something from the match but again struggled to turn promising moments into a positive away result.

Napoli started with high intensity and gained reward in the 18th minute. Sam Beukema met Miguel Gutierrez's curling free-kick with a powerful header, beating Vanja Milinkovic-Savic from close range. That early strike gave the visitors control, while Atalanta found it difficult to create clear openings during most of the first half.
The home side finally threatened five minutes before half-time. Kamaldeen Sulemana broke into space and tested Milinkovic-Savic with a low effort, but the Napoli goalkeeper gathered safely. Atalanta's frustration almost turned to relief moments later when Rasmus Hojlund went down under a challenge from Isak Hien, and referee Daniele Chiffi initially pointed to the spot.
That apparent breakthrough did not stand, however, as Chiffi reviewed the incident on the pitchside monitor and overturned the penalty decision. The second half opened with more controversy when Gutierrez thought Napoli had doubled the lead, only for the goal to be disallowed after Hojlund was penalised for a foul on Hein in the build-up.
Atalanta capitalised on that reprieve just after the hour mark. Nicola Zalewski delivered a dangerous corner, Mario Pasalic attacked the near post and flicked the ball past Milinkovic-Savic. That finish marked Pasalic's 50th Serie A goal and shifted the momentum firmly towards Raffaele Palladino's side.
Palladino had already changed the attacking structure at half-time, sending on Lazar Samardzic for Sulemana. The move proved decisive in the closing stages. Samardzic combined smartly with fellow substitute Lorenzo Bernasconi, timing a run into the box and guiding Bernasconi's cross into the corner with an accurate header on 81 minutes.
Napoli pressed in the final minutes but could not find another breakthrough against an organised Atalanta defence. The visitors finished with 10 shots, the same number as Atalanta, yet lacked precision in crucial moments as the hosts managed the final stages with control.

The underlying numbers underlined Napoli's frustration. The visitors produced an expected goals (xG) figure of 1.08 from their 10 attempts, marginally higher than Atalanta's 0.75 from an identical shot total. Despite that edge, Napoli left with nothing and continued a worrying pattern away from home.
This loss means Napoli have now been beaten in at least six of their first 14 Serie A away fixtures of a season for the first time since 2009-10. For Atalanta, Pasalic's influence remained clear. Since scoring a first Serie A goal for the club in 2018-19, only Hakan Calhanoglu, with 51, has more goals than Pasalic's 50 among midfielders in the competition.
The match highlighted two contrasting trends, with Atalanta sustaining momentum in the league and Napoli slipping further from Inter and potentially AC Milan. Pasalic's milestone goal and Samardzic's decisive header underlined Atalanta's depth, while Napoli's numbers showed effort without reward, especially away from home.
