Atalanta Achieves First Champions League Victory With 3-0 Win Over Shakhtar Donetsk

Atalanta secured their first win in this season's Champions League with a decisive 3-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk. Ademola Lookman, Berat Djimsiti, and Raoul Bellanova found the net for Gian Piero Gasperini's team at VELTINS-Arena. The breakthrough came in the 21st minute when Djimsiti converted Lookman's cross after a short corner.

Lookman, who was instrumental in last season's Europa League final, doubled Atalanta's lead just before half-time. He scored from Sead Kolasinac’s pass and also hit the crossbar earlier in the match. Shortly after the break, Lookman assisted again by passing to Davide Zappacosta, whose cross was headed in by Bellanova.

Shakhtar Donetsk struggled throughout the match and failed to register a shot on target. This marked their first such instance in a Champions League game since facing Roma in March 2018 and their first ever on home soil. Their inability to threaten Atalanta’s goal was evident.

Lookman's European Form Continues

Ademola Lookman continued his impressive form in European competitions. He became only the second Atalanta player after Duvan Zapata to both score and assist in a single Champions League match. Over his last seven European games, Lookman has been involved in eight goals, surpassing his previous record of six goals and two assists.

Atalanta's commanding performance against Shakhtar Donetsk showcased their attacking prowess and defensive solidity. The victory not only boosted their confidence but also highlighted Lookman's vital role as they aim for further success in this year's competition.
