Rui Patricio has joined Atalanta on a one-year contract as a free agent after leaving Roma. The 36-year-old goalkeeper departed the Italian capital following the end of his contract, with Mile Svilar taking over as the first-choice keeper under new manager Daniele De Rossi.Patricio signed with Roma in July 2021, making 129 appearances and securing 48 clean sheets across all competitions. During his time at Roma, he won the inaugural Europa Conference League title. On the international stage, Patricio earned 108 caps for Portugal and was part of the squad that triumphed in the 2016 European Championship.Atalanta confirmed Patricio's signing just hours after their previous goalkeeper, Juan Musso, moved to Atletico Madrid on loan until the season's end. Musso had limited opportunities last season, featuring in only 24 matches across all competitions for Atalanta.Despite limited appearances, Musso played a crucial role in helping Atalanta secure their second trophy by defeating Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final. In Serie A last season, Musso made 11 appearances, recording 23 saves and conceding 12 goals while keeping six clean sheets.
