Bengaluru, December 15: Former England striker and current ATK boss Teddy Sheringham rejected an English club which offered him the role of an assistant manager to move to India.

Sheringham is one of the biggest names till date from world football to join as the coach of a side in ISL, having played for top Premier League clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in the past.

However, his career as a manager has not been on the same path. He took charge of Stevenage last year, in League Two, the fourth tier of English football. He was subsequently sacked from that post after Stevenage managed only three points from his last eight matches.

While Sheringham is currently the head coach of ATK, he did have a few offers from a number of English during the summer, according to sources close to the former Manchester United man. Some of these clubs were said to have been from the Premier League as well.

Championship side Sunderland were believed to have offered him the role of an assistant manager at the club. However, Sheringham seems to have turned down these offers, preferring a move to India, where he took over the reigns at two-time ISL champions ATK.

Sheringham has had a terrible start to life in ISL with the champions as his side are yet to win a single game this campaign. ATK have only managed two points in four games however injuries have played a key role behind their poor display.

ATK did look much better against Chennaiyin, once Keane came on as a substitute, on his return from injury. They mounted a good comeback in the end, only going on to lose the match 3-2.

Sheringham will hope that his side comes back strong in the Super League and fulfil the expectations from them.
