Atletico Madrid Finalises Transfer Agreement With Botafogo For Thiago Almada
Thiago Almada is set to join Atletico Madrid after the club reached an agreement with Botafogo. The Argentine midfielder, who was part of Argentina's squad at the 2022 World Cup, spent the latter half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Lyon. During his time there, he made 20 appearances across all competitions, starting in 11 matches and scoring two goals.
Almada's stint at Lyon also saw him contribute four assists and create 24 chances. His performances have paved the way for a move to Atletico Madrid, pending a successful medical examination. Once completed, Almada will become Atletico's third signing of the summer transfer window.

Before Almada's arrival, Atletico had already secured Alex Baena from Villarreal and Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta. These signings reflect Atletico's strategy to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season. Almada's addition is expected to bolster their midfield options significantly.
Almada initially joined Botafogo in 2024 and quickly became a standout player in Major League Soccer with Atlanta United. His impressive performances caught the attention of European clubs, leading to his loan move to Lyon. Now, he is poised to make his mark in La Liga with Atletico Madrid.
The move to Atletico represents a significant step in Almada's career as he joins one of Spain's top clubs. His versatility and creativity on the field are expected to add depth to Diego Simeone's squad as they aim for success in domestic and European competitions.
This transfer highlights Atletico Madrid's commitment to enhancing their team by acquiring young talent with potential for growth. As Almada prepares for this new chapter in his career, fans eagerly anticipate seeing how he will adapt to Spanish football and contribute to Atletico’s ambitions.
