The biggest names in world football will gather in Paris on Monday (October 30) for the prestigious annual Ballon d'Or 2023 ceremony, organized by France Football and hosted by legend Didier Drogba.
Considered amongst the top football awards, Ballon d'Or has played a significant role in recognizing the greatest football players across the world. The award, which roots back to 1956, has seen some great players rise to fame, from Stanley Matthews to Lionel Messi.

In 2018, the marquee award started honouring top women football players, and Ada Hegerberg became the first female footballer to receive the Ballon d'Or. Apart from the male and female awards, a few other awards will also be presented on the night in Paris.
The 67th edition will see the record winner Lionel Messi, who missed out last year, return as the favourite this year. His rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who also did not make the top 10 last year, is not part of the nominees this year.
Messi will feature along with 29 other nominees, who will be voted for by 180 journalists from around the world. The only rival for the 7-time winner Messi in the 2023 edition will be Manchester City’s treble winning Norway forward Erling Haaland.
The nominees were announced earlier this year on September 6 with reports suggesting Messi, who lifted the FIFA World Cup 2022, will win the coveted award for the eight time.
Apart from the men's award, the ceremony will also see awards distributed in the women's category, the Kopa Trophy (presented to the best performing player under the age of 21) and the Yashin Trophy (recognising the best goalkeeper).
The ceremony will see some of the world’s top stars in attendance as football awaits the crowning of the coveted award winners. Here is all you need to know about the ceremony:
