Ballon d'Or 2024: Lamine Yamal beats Real Madrid player to become youngest recipient of Kopa Trophy

Barcelona's golden boy Lamine Yamal clinched the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d'Or 2024 ceremony on Monday (October 28).

The teenager from Spain, who has been a sensation since his emergence, got the award which is handed to the best young players of the preceding season.

Lamine Yamal rose to the limelight after making his debut with Barcelona in the 2022-23 season. But he showed his class last season, making 50 appearances for the club and making 14 goal contributions.

Yamal then continued his prowess with Spain national team and helped his country to win the Euro 2024 this summer. The 17-year-old has broken numerous records in his budding yet magnificent career so far. He has already scored 6 goals and has assisted 7 across all competitions for Barcelona this season.

Yamal achieved a plethora of records in the past year or so, and the latest came on Monday when he won the Kopa Trophy. The Barcelona star is now the youngest to win the award at the age of 17 years and 107 days.

Lamine Yamal became the youngest to score in an El Clasico match when he netted in Barcelona's 4-0 win over Real Madrid. And on Monday, Yamal beat Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler to win the Kopa Trophy, who finished 2nd in the rankings.

Kobbie Mainoo, Savinho, and Pau Cubarsi rounded out the top five, each bringing unique strengths and achievements to the table, highlighting the diverse talent pool across clubs and countries.

The rankings continue with Joao Neves taking the sixth position, followed closely by Alejandro Garnacho and Zaïre-Emery Warren, who claimed the seventh and eighth places, respectively. The list of top ten young talents was completed by Mathys Tel and Karim Konate, who have both demonstrated exceptional skill on the field.
