The biggest names in world football will gather in Paris on Monday (October 28) for the prestigious annual Ballon d'Or 2024 ceremony, organized by France Football and UEFA with legend Didier Drogba and Sandy Heribert set to be the hosts.

Considered amongst the top football awards, Ballon d'Or has played a significant role in recognizing the greatest football players across the world. The award, which roots back to 1956, has seen some great players rise to fame, from Stanley Matthews to Lionel Messi.

In 2018, the marquee award started honouring top women football players, and Ada Hegerberg became the first female footballer to receive the Ballon d'Or. Apart from the Ballon d’Or, a few other awards will also be presented on the night in Paris.

The 68th edition will be the first time since 2003 when multi-time winners Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo do not feature among the 30 nominees. Messi had returned last year to win his 8th Ballon d’Or, while Ronaldo also did not make the final 30 last year as well.

With Messi and Ronaldo out of the race, Vinicius Junior is reportedly been backed to win the award this year, with Manchester City’s Rodri and his Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham set to be the other favourites for the 2024 Ballon d'Or men's award.

Apart from the men's award, the ceremony will also see awards distributed in the women's category, the Kopa Trophy (presented to the best performing player under the age of 21) and the Yashin Trophy (recognising the best goalkeeper).

When and where is Ballon d'Or 2024 ceremony happening?

The 2024 Ballon d'Or ceremony will take place on Monday (October 28) at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. The official ceremony will start around 8:45 PM CET / 6:45 PM GMT (12:15 AM IST, October 29, Tuesday) and will run until 8:30 PM GMT (2 AM IST, October 29).

How to watch the Ballon d'Or 2024 ceremony?
