The referee finally puts Bangladesh out of their misery with the final whistle as the South Asian nation is annihilated 7-0 by the Socceroos in Melbourne in their first match of the Round 2 of AFC World Cup Qualifiers 2026!
90+2' No respite for Bangladesh's defense as MacLaren was fed with a dangerous cross by Lewis Miller yet again but the forward skies it high over the crossbar! BAN 0-7 AUS
90' Mitul Marma makes a stunning save by diving low to his right! Something to take from the game for the Bangladeshi goalkeeper, who has conceded seven goals! Meanwhile four minutes of stoppage time is soon to be added!
88' Aiden O'Neil makes a brilliant solo run from the right wing and beats two defender! However, Shakil Hossain fouls him from behind before O'Neil could provide the cross! Mass Luongo will take the penalty kick!
86' Bangladesh coach Cabrera makes a late change as he sends in defender Rahmat Mia for Bishwanath Ghosh!
84' Jamie Maclaren scores a hat-trick! Another tap-in goal by the poacher as Lewis Miller sets him up with a perfect low cross after O'Neil fed the winger with a beautiful through ball on the right wing! BAN 0-7 AUS
81' Bangladesh look helpless at the moment as they are forced to sit deep in their half and defend while no counter-attacking opportunities are coming up despite the introduction of talented Shekh Morsalin in attack!
76' Our apologies for the delay in coverage due to a technical error. In the last few minutes Bangladesh saw a yellow card after defender M Saad made a late tackle on Lewis Miller.
Both sides made changes as well with 17-year-old Shekh Morsalin coming on for Foysal Ahmed for Bangladesh. Australia send in Kusini Yengi for Borello! BAN 0-6 AUS
70' Jamie Maclaren with another tap in to make it 6-0! The poacher was at the right place at the right time as a brilliant save by goalkeeper Mitul Marma sees the loose ball for Maclaren to capitalise on!
67' Couple of corners in the last few minutes for the Socceroos and on both occasions, they won the aerial duel but couldn't keep their efforts on target! BAN 0-5 AUS
65' Australians make another change as O'Neil comes on for Keanu Baccus!

A sight that will worry any Bangladeshi fan! The two Australian centre-backs are too tall for any Bangladesh defender but coach Cabrera had to do something and he asks his players to double mark them!
62' Bangladesh had a rare opportunity to attack from the left wing as they caught Soceroos on the break! However, Jony disappoints with a poor pass despite having two unmarked teammates waiting for a through ball! Poor football by the Bangladeshis
59' Bangladesh coach Cabrerea finally uses his bench as he sends in Rabiul Islam, Rafiqul Islam and Shakil Hossain for Jamal, Murad and Rakib Hossain! BAN 0-5 AUS
55' Jordi Bos's overlapping runs from the left wing has troubled Bangladesh throughout the game and the latest ones lead to a corner following a diving interception by Murad
53' Australians are hungry for more goals as they continue to foray into the Bangladesh box. Bangladesh meanwhile are not pressing hard anymore and are trying to maintain their defensive lines BAN 0-5 AUS
48' Substitute Jamie Maclaren makes it 5-0 as Jordi Bos sets him up following a counter attack from the left wing! A refereeing error there as replays show Maclaren was offside. No VAR in the AFC Qualifiers for a recheck which means the score will be 5-0 in Soceroos' favour!
46' The second half gets underway and three changes are made by Soceroos!Duke, Burges, Godwin make way for Luongo, Behich and Luongo! No changes by Bangladesh
Players are coming back on the field and Australians are making multiple changes at the break. Will confirm all the changes soon.

Bangladesh showed intensity early in the game as they try to put press Australia in the midfield but an early set-piece goal by Souttar gave the hosts early cushion and they soon responded with a second goal by Borello through open-play attack.
Waves of attack from either wings remained the theme for Aussies while Bangladesh's pressing game soon withered away.
The result of that was two quick goals by Mitchell Duke before half time, killing Bangladesh before the break! The match now for the away side is all about not losing this match by a nightmarish margin!
The referee blows the half time whistle and that's some respite for Bangladesh as Harry Souttar and Metcalfe came close to scoring in the injury time! A complete domination by the Soceroos in the first 45 minutes to take a 4-0 lead!
45+1' Bangladesh shows some improvement as they manage to counter twice in the last two minutes. However, nothing substantial comes out of it as Bangladesh forwards are too isolated to coordinate and attack! Meanwhile two minutes of stoppage time has been added
43' Seems like Bangladesh players have already run out of steam as the pressing in midfield has died down while Australia continue to send waves of attack from the wings! Too much for Bangladeshis to deal with at the moment! BAN 0-4 AUS
40' Duke taps it in from close range to score two quick goals after Borello's effort from outside the box hit the post and falls nicely to Duke! Bangladesh defense at fault again as the goal comes after a poor clearance! It's BAN 0-4 AUS
37' Mitchell Duke makes it 3-0 as Connor Metcalfe sets him up with a brilliant cross from the left wing into the near post! Bangladesh's defense at fault for not attempting an aerial duel to block Duke. Saying that, Duke is too tall for any Bangladesh defender to win an aerial duel against!
32' Bangladesh try to catch Australia on the break after Jordi Bos's overlapping run sees a threatening cross cleared by the defense! Sohel Rana and Jamal Bhuyan coordinate well on the right for the break but Jordi tracks back well to cut the counter with a shoulder push on Sohel.
Bangladesh dugout not too impressed as they feel there was a foul by Jordi on Sohel! BAN 0-2 AUS
29' Australia have kept 77% of the ball possession so far while the strategy remains the same to pepper the box with one cross after another but Bangladesh's defense is keeping it tight inside the box, not allowing Oz forwards to reach the crosses! BAN 0-2 AUS
Australia's qualification campaign begins against Bangladesh on Thursday night at AAMI Park in Melbourne. The match marks the beginning of a difficult three-year journey aimed at earning a spot in the North American FIFA World Cup in 2026.
The team led by Graham Arnold has been put to the test in recent friendlies against world champions Argentina, New Zealand, Mexico, England, and the United States in preparation for their qualifying campaign.
In their most recent friendlies, the green and gold squared off against European champions England for ninety minutes at Wembley Stadium before winning handily against their neighbors New Zealand to recapture the "Soccer Ashes."
The match on Thursday was Australia's first competitive game on home soil in more than six hundred days. Although the team gained vital experience playing against formidable opposition, they had not performed in front of their own supporters since Ecuador's March tour.
The opponents on Thursday, Bangladesh, have already begun their qualifying campaign, winning 3-2 over two legs against regional rivals The Maldives. With the intention of making it to the final round for the first time, the 183rd-ranked squad regularly outperforms their position on the leaderboard. They are regulars in the AFC's second round of qualifiers.
Jamal Bhuyen, a midfielder and captain for the Bengal Tigers, is currently their standout player. Having played for FC Copenhagen, a major Danish football club, Bhuyen, the all-time appearance leader for Bangladesh, is friends with Maty Ryan, the captain of the Subway Socceroos. The 33-year-old, who was reared in Denmark's capital, is acquainted with the playing methods of Australian players who are European-based.
