MADRID, Oct 27 (Reuters) Barcelona forward Lionel Messi is optimistic that he will be able to play against Chelsea in the Champions League at home on Tuesday despite an ankle injury.

''It still hurts a bit, but I'm confident I will be able to play on Tuesday,'' the 19-year-old Argentine told El Mundo Deportivo on Friday.

Messi picked up the injury when he was fouled by Brazilian midfielder Emerson in last weekend's 2-0 defeat against arch-rivals Real Madrid and will miss Barcelona's league game at home to Recreativo Huelva tomorrow.

The European champions lost 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last week and are second in Group A level on four points with Werder Bremen and five behind the Londoners.
