Jules Kounde emerged as the unexpected hero, scoring twice to lead Barcelona to a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. This victory significantly bolstered their Champions League aspirations. Ansgar Knauff initially put the visitors ahead, but Kounde's second-half performance turned the game around. This win moved Barcelona up to 14th place, just two points away from the top eight.

Robert Lewandowski had an early goal disallowed due to an offside in the build-up involving Raphinha. Gerard Martin then tested Michael Zetterer with a long-range shot during a dominant opening spell for Barcelona. Despite this pressure, it was Eintracht who scored first. Knauff capitalised on Nathaniel Brown's through ball, beating Alejandro Balde and finding the bottom-right corner in the 21st minute.

Kounde struck again three minutes later, heading in another goal after Lamine Yamal's precise delivery from the left flank. Ferran Torres almost added a third for Barcelona with a powerful shot that went wide as they sought to secure victory. Despite their efforts, Eintracht couldn't stage a late comeback.

Yamal's Record-Breaking Performance

Lamine Yamal played a pivotal role by assisting Kounde's second goal. This assist marked his 14th direct involvement in goals for Barcelona in the Champions League (seven goals and seven assists). Yamal surpassed Kylian Mbappe for most goal involvements by an under-18 player since 1992-93.

Kounde also made history by becoming the first Barcelona player to score two headed goals in one Champions League match. Hansi Flick likely felt his team deserved this victory after accumulating 1.43 expected goals (xG) compared to Eintracht's 0.77, securing an essential win for automatic knockout stage qualification pursuit.
