Barcelona break silence after Deco resignation rumours, accuses Spanish media of 'Attack'

Barcelona have officially retributed to the reports of Deco's wish to leave the club. The former Portugal player took over the director charges recently but a report from Spanish outlet Diario Sport suggested that he is contemplating resignation from his role due to Barcelona's ravaging financial mismanagements.

Barcelona experienced a tumultuous summer transfer window, grappling with ongoing financial woes stemming from past mismanagement.

Despite the struggle, Deco managed to welcome Spain's Euro star Dani Olmo, but Barcelona's prime target Nico Williams opted to stay put at Athletic Bilbao amid the financial volatility at the club.

Deco's efforts were not without controversy. A report by 'Diario Sport' on September 1 cast doubt on his future at the club, suggesting that his position had tarnished both his and the club's reputation. The report claimed that players were hesitant to join Barcelona due to its persistent internal issues.

In response to this report, FC Barcelona have now issued a strong denial with an official statement, mentioning the article which they labelled as an 'attack' on the club.

"FC Barcelona categorically denies the news that appeared this September 1 in the digital version of 'Diario Sport' putting in doubt the continuity of our director of football. In response to the piece titled 'Deco, disappointed, meditating his future', FC Barcelona states that it could not be happier with the job being done by Deco and refutes this attack by 'Diario Sport' on the director of football precisely at the end of the transfer window," the statement from the Catalan club read.

The club's statement underscores their support for Deco and dismisses any claims questioning his role or performance. By addressing this publicly and naming the publisher involved, Barcelona aims to clear any misconceptions about their sporting director's standing.

The report highlighted that Deco's role had negatively impacted his prestige and that of Barcelona. The ongoing internal problems have made it difficult for players to take Barcelona seriously as a viable option, creating a significant headache for both Deco and the club.

Despite these issues, Barcelona continue to back Deco firmly. Their stance remains unwavering as they navigate through these turbulent times.

For now, Barcelona stands united behind Deco, making it clear that they are satisfied with his contributions despite the external criticisms.
