Barcelona Chief Deco Highlights Club's Interest In Luis Diaz And Marcus Rashford Transfers

Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, has openly shared the club's interest in Manchester United's Marcus Rashford and Liverpool's Luis Diaz. Diaz has been pivotal in Liverpool's Premier League success under Arne Slot this season. Meanwhile, Rashford, who spent part of the season on loan at Aston Villa, has also caught the attention of the Catalan giants after his impressive performances under Unai Emery.

Deco emphasised Barcelona's strategy to strengthen their squad by retaining key players and making strategic signings. "We like Luis [Diaz], we like [Marcus] Rashford, and we like other players," Deco mentioned to Catalan radio station RAC1. He highlighted that when entering the market, they consider names that could enhance the team.

The Blaugrana are eager to build on their domestic treble triumph next season. They secured victories in La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Supercopa de Espana. The club recently confirmed extending manager Hansi Flick's contract until 2027. Flick was initially appointed on a two-year deal in May 2024.

Deco stressed the importance of renewing contracts with current stars such as Pedri, Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Raphinha, and Jules Kounde. "Our big priority is to strengthen what we have at home with renewals," he stated. Deco considers these renewals as significant as new signings for the club.

Luis Diaz has two years remaining on his Liverpool contract. He contributed significantly with 17 goals and five assists in 49 appearances across all competitions this season. Only Mohamed Salah surpassed him in goal contributions for Liverpool with 46.

Rashford had a productive stint at Aston Villa, scoring four goals and providing five assists in 17 matches across all competitions. Reports suggest Rashford might be available for around £40 million after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim.

Deco also mentioned that Barcelona is looking for a player with a different profile to complement their current strikers. Fermin Lopez has performed well as a winger but further additions might be necessary depending on market conditions.

The club aims to maintain its competitive edge by balancing new signings with retaining existing talent. Deco believes that renewing Lamine Yamal is crucial for Barcelona’s future success. "Lamine [renewing] is the best signing in history," he remarked.
