Barcelona Must Maintain Focus And Work Hard For Champions League Success, Says Hansi Flick

Hansi Flick emphasises the need for Barcelona to work diligently as they pursue Champions League glory. Despite a strong start with impressive victories, he reminds the team of the challenges ahead and the importance of continuous improvement.

Hansi Flick has urged caution regarding Barcelona's prospects for trophies in his debut season, as they prepare to face Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League. Under Flick, Barcelona has achieved 13 victories out of 15 matches across all competitions, scoring 50 goals and conceding only 14. Notable performances include a 4-0 win against Real Madrid and a 4-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Despite these impressive results, Flick remains grounded, acknowledging fans' enthusiasm but emphasizing the importance of staying focused. "We have to work hard," he stated. "There are many teams who dream of the same thing, of winning (the Champions League)." He stressed the need for continuous improvement and focusing on winning each upcoming match.

Flick Urges Barcelona to Focus on Champions League

Flick expressed no surprise at Barcelona's strong start this season, despite their lack of trophies last year. Currently, they lead LaLiga by nine points and sit 11th in the Champions League standings. Red Star Belgrade, their next opponent, has yet to secure a win in their three games so far.

"Before we came here we analysed the whole team, every player," Flick explained. "We realised that there was very good quality overall." He highlighted defensive improvements and minor tactical changes that have been well-received by players. The squad's positive response has contributed significantly to their early success.

Barcelona is optimistic about maintaining their excellent form against Red Star Belgrade, a team with an unfavourable record in the Champions League. Red Star has lost 81% of their matches in this competition (P21 W2 D2 L17). The upcoming game marks their first European encounter since October 1996 when they drew 1-1 in the Cup Winners Cup.

Their previous meeting saw Giovanni equalize after Zoran Jovicic scored for the Serbian side. As Barca looks ahead to this fixture, Flick emphasizes that while early successes are promising, it's crucial how they finish the season. He suggests aiming for a top-eight finish as a realistic goal.

Flick remains focused on continuous improvement throughout the long season ahead. "The important thing is how we finish the season," he noted. His approach underscores a commitment to steady progress rather than immediate triumphs.
