Barcelona reach agreement to sign Evan Ndicka on a free transfer

Bengaluru, February 15: Barcelona have reached a verbal agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka, according to reports in Spain.

The young French defender has been courted by some of the top clubs in Europe in recent weeks, including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund. However, Barcelona are seemingly the favorites to land the Frenchman on a free transfer.

Ndicka has been a crucial player for Eintracht Frankfurt over the years, making 29 appearances for the German side this term across competitions.

Ndicka has so far made a total of 168 appearances for the Bundesliga side and was a key part of their victorious UEFA Europa League campaign last season.

Xavi Hernandez's side were linked with Athletic Bilbao defender Inigo Martinez as well but Ndicka looks like a much better option for the Catalan giants considering he is just 23 years of age and still has plenty of his career left ahead of himself.

Ndicka's contract with Eintracht Frankfurt is set to expire in the summer and will cost Barcelona nothing if he moves to Camp Nou in the summer. The Catalan giants have done excellent defensively this season and have no shortage of quality at their disposal.

Barcelona have Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia as their options at the heart of the defence. Marcos Alonso has also been used by Xavi at centre-back. Ndicka would be a great addition to Barcelona in terms of both depth and quality.

Ndicka's arrival could also mean the end of Eric Garcia at Barcelona. The Spaniard has struggled for playing time since his switch to Camp Nou from Manchester City and has been linked with an exit from the club. Ndicka's arrival could see the youngster slip further down the pecking order and eventually his departure.
