Anthony Gordon Barcelona Transfer: Five-Year Deal Confirmed

Anthony Gordon called his transfer to Barcelona a dream move after signing a five-year contract with the LaLiga champions. Barcelona reportedly agreed an €80m (£69.3m) fee with Newcastle United, making Gordon the club’s first signing of the 2026 summer window as Hansi Flick reshapes the squad.

The England international, aged 25, arrived at Camp Nou after a standout spell at Newcastle, where Gordon played across the front line. Barcelona see Gordon as a key part of their next attacking phase following recent changes in the forward positions and the need for fresh options.

Gordon joins Barcelona on five-year deal

Barcelona are planning a new-look attack after winning LaLiga last season. Robert Lewandowski ended a long, successful career with Barcelona at the close of the 2025-26 campaign. Under Eddie Howe, Gordon often featured as a central striker, which offers Flick another option through the middle.

The Catalan club are also assessing further forward signings. Marcus Rashford, who spent last season on loan at Barcelona, is again linked with a permanent move. Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez is another reported target, suggesting strong competition for attacking places around Gordon.

Gordon joined Newcastle from Everton in 2023 and quickly became a regular at St. James' Park. Across all competitions, Gordon made 152 appearances for Newcastle. During that period, only Alexander Isak recorded more goal contributions for the club, with Isak registering 68 compared to Gordon’s 60.

Gordon scored 39 goals for Newcastle from an expected goals total of 44.1. In the 2025-26 Champions League, Gordon struck 10 times, including a goal against Barcelona in the league phase. That tally made Gordon only the second English player to hit double figures in a single Champions League season, after Harry Kane last year.

Anthony Gordon Barcelona transfer and player reaction

At the presentation, Gordon spoke about the scale of the move and his emotions. "I'm very excited and very proud to be here. It's a dream come true. I'm part of the best team in the world, thank you," Gordon said. The forward also answered several questions in Spanish, drawing attention from local media.

Gordon explained that interest from Bayern Munich never challenged Barcelona’s offer once contact began. "I always wanted Barca," Gordon added. "Barca, like I said then, it's the biggest club on the planet. It's the stuff I dreamed of as a child. It really is a dream come true."

Barcelona initially told supporters the announcement would arrive at midday on Friday. Instead, confirmation came more than eight hours later. Asked about the delay, Gordon said: "No, I knew it would happen. I've been very calm at the hotel, just waiting with my family, with my agents, but I was very excited, so it was kind of hard to wait."

Gordon stressed that the hold-up was not on the player’s side. "I cant explain (the delay). I don't know, it's stuff I don't understand. All my part was done. I've been ready for two days now, so it was stuff above me, I think, legal things and the very small details." Gordon now turns attention to pre-season as Barcelona defend their LaLiga title.
