Barcelona vs Benfica: Ramadan likely to play Unique Part, Five players may break fasting during First Half

By MyKhel Staff

Barcelona will be up against Benfica in the 2nd leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash on Tuesday (March 11).

The Spanish team managed a 1-0 victory in Lisbon in the last leg, which puts them in an advantageous position before the start of the match.

Barcelona vs Benfica

While football takes center stage, some things continue regardless of the sport, and one such event is Ramadan. This holy month which comes of Eid-ul-Fitr, requires Muslims to fast from sunrise to sunset. Among the Barcelona squad, two players, Lamine Yamal and Ansu Fati, are reportedly observing the fast.

Normally, players break their fast before the game starts. However, this match has been scheduled at an earlier time, meaning the fasting players will have to wait a few extra minutes after kick-off before they can eat or drink. In Barcelona, sunset will occur around seven minutes after the game begins, allowing the players to break their fast shortly after kick-off.

How will Players break the Fasting in Barcelona vs Benfica Match?

Both teams will make special arrangements to ensure their fasting players can break their fast in the best way possible without affecting their performance. After the designated minute, the referee may halt the game for a brief period so the players can break their fast and replenish themselves.

At halftime, these players will have the chance to eat a more substantial meal to restore energy levels and prepare for the second half. This situation presents a unique challenge, as fasting during such an important game requires careful planning and support from the team staff.

As many as five players will be breaking their Ramadan fasting during the match. They are Lamine Yamal (Barcelona), Ansu Fati (Barcelona), Kerem Akturkoglu (Benfica), Orkun Kokcu (Benfica), Zeki Amdouni (Benfica).
