Baroda football team scores first win in Kanga Cup in Australia
New Delhi, July 10 (UNI) Providence Football Club, Baroda, registered their first win in the under 15 category of the Kanga Cup international youth tournament, beating Tuggeranong United 5-1 in a Pool A match in Canberra today.
They, however, lost 1-4 to Highland Eagles (New South Wales) earlier in the day. Providence had also lost their opening match 3-4 to Canberra side Weston Creek Redbacks.
The Baroda team is now fourth in the pool with three points from three matches and has to win their last match against group leaders Adelaide side Metrostars for any hope to advance in the next stage of the tournament, according to information received here from Canberra.
There are three groups of five teams. Two top teams from each group and two best third progress to Cup competition which is to be played in knockout basis. The other teams go to Plate competition.
Providence Club was the first Asian team selected for fellowship to participate in the tournament which started on July 8.
Kanga Cup is Australia's biggest and oldest youth football tournament involving over 170 teams all over the world in seven age groups from 11 to 18 in both boys and girls.
