New Delhi, July 6: An under-15 team of Providence Football Club, Baroda, has been selected for an Asian Fellowship to participate in McDonald's Kanga Cup in Canberra, Australia, from July 8 to 13 Kanga Cup is Australia's biggest and oldest youth football tournament involving over 170 teams from all over the world and Providence is the first Asian team to get selected for this fellowship.
The team has been training hard for the tournament for the last two months with financial support from Ashok Piramal Group which is eying some big time involvement in promotion of football in the country.
All India Football Federation president Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi had also reportedly taken personal interest in supporting the team.
The Providence Sub Junior team had participated in the Manchester United-Nike National Club Championship in January this year in Mumbai and had given an impressive performance, beating Pondicherry Football Academy 7-0.
The team leaves for Australia tonight.
