Baroda football team win Plate competition of Kanga Cup in Australia
New Delhi, July 15 (UNI) Providence Football Club, Baroda, emerged winners in the under-15 Plate competition of the Kanga Cup international youth tournament, beating Marist College 7-4 via tie-breaker in Canberra.
The two teams were tied 3-3 and then 4-4 after regulation and extra times but Providence won the penalty shootout 3-0.
The Baroda team competed for the Plate competition after finishing fourth in Pool A of the main tournament which had 15 teams from across the globe, divided into three groups of five.
Two top teams from each group and two best third had progressed to Cup competition while the remaining teams played for Plate competition.
In the Plate competition, Providence had beaten Belnorth United Amigos 4-3 and South West Queensland 5-3 en-route to final, according to information received from Canberra.
Providence Club was the first Asian team selected for fellowship to participate in the tournament which started on July 8.
Kanga Cup is Australia's biggest and oldest youth football tournament involving over 170 teams all over the world in seven age groups from 11 to 18 in both boys and girls.
