Bayern Munich Triumphs Over Slovan Bratislava 3-1 Yet Fails To Secure Automatic Qualification

Bayern Munich achieved a 3-1 victory against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League. Despite dominating the match, they missed out on automatic qualification and will face a play-off tie. The win extended their unbeaten home streak in the competition.

Bayern Munich secured a 3-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League on Wednesday. Despite this win, they missed out on a top-eight finish. Vincent Kompany's team had already ensured at least a play-off spot before the match. However, other results didn't favour them, leading to a 12th-place finish.

Dominating from the start, Bayern's early pressure paid off quickly. Joshua Kimmich delivered a cross into the box just eight minutes in, allowing Thomas Muller to head it home unchallenged. Although they needed a significant win, Bayern couldn't convert more chances into goals before halftime.

Bayern Munich Wins but Misses Qualification

Their unbeaten home streak in the Champions League continued with this victory. Bayern have not lost any of their last 34 matches at the Allianz Arena during the group or league stages. This is now the longest run in the competition's history.

In the second half, Harry Kane finally found success after coming close earlier. He scored with another header in the 63rd minute, thanks to Jamal Musiala's deflected cross reaching him soon after Musiala came off the bench.

Leroy Sane nearly added another goal but hit the woodwork instead. Kingsley Coman then secured the win six minutes from time by turning in Serge Gnabry's rebound after his shot was saved.

Kompany will be pleased with the win but not entirely satisfied as they now face a two-legged play-off against either Celtic or Manchester City. Despite their efforts, Bayern were denied a clean sheet when Marko Tolic scored for Slovan Bratislava late on.

Bayern were determined to secure victory and took an impressive 35 shots during the match—their highest total this season in the competition—with seven considered 'big' chances. They also created an expected goals (xG) tally of 4.08 compared to Slovan's 1.08.
