Bayern Munich reached the DFB-Pokal semi-finals for the first time in six years after a 2-0 win over RB Leipzig at Allianz Arena, with Harry Kane scoring from the penalty spot and Luis Diaz adding a second, as Vincent Kompany’s team finally broke through following a tense and often frustrating cup quarter-final.

Bayern Munich had strong reasons for confidence against RB Leipzig, having already won both Bundesliga meetings this season by an 11-1 aggregate, including a 6-0 away victory in which Kane registered a perfect hat-trick during Leipzig’s heaviest defeat in the German top flight, yet the cup tie proved tighter, with missed chances and resilient defending delaying the breakthrough.

Kane still produced decisive influence for Bayern Munich despite wasteful finishing, leading the game with five attempts, four on target, accounting for 1.39 of Bayern’s 3.1 expected goals before finally scoring from 12 yards, while Leipzig rarely created comparable danger once behind, as Bayern managed the closing stages with greater control and limited risk.

Michael Olise stood out again for Bayern Munich with another composed DFB-Pokal display, creating more chances than any teammate with three key passes and supplying the measured assist for Diaz’s goal, while almost scoring late on, and Bayern finished the match one victory away from the final, having blended attacking persistence with defensive stability against Leipzig.
