Johan Manzambi: Muller Urges Bayern To Monitor Freiburg Star
Thomas Muller urges Bayern Munich to monitor Freiburg forward Johan Manzambi after standout World Cup form for Switzerland. Manzambi scores twice as a substitute against Bosnia-Herzegovina in a 4-1 victory and sets a World Cup age record at 20 years and 247 days.
The brace makes Manzambi the youngest player in World Cup history to score at least two goals as a substitute. The same performance also confirms Manzambi as the first Switzerland player to achieve that feat in a World Cup match coming from the bench.

Across the previous season with Freiburg, Manzambi features in 47 matches and scores seven goals. Manzambi also provides six assists from 31 chances created. Within the squad, Manzambi attempts more shots than any team-mate, with 95 efforts and 26 on target.
Those numbers highlight a relatively low efficiency in front of goal, with Manzambi posting a shot conversion rate of 7.4%. Despite that percentage, the volume of attempts and involvement in attacking moves underline Manzambi’s importance in Freiburg’s offensive structure last term.
{TABLE_1}Muller’s admiration grows during Switzerland’s second World Cup fixture, when Manzambi delivers that decisive impact from the bench. Working as an analyst for MagentaTV, Muller sends a clear message to Bayern Munich, stating: "For me, he is someone, and now we can make a headline: that FC Bayern should also look at,".
Manzambi’s rise follows development in the Freiburg academy, where Manzambi progresses through each youth level. The forward makes a first-team debut in August 2024 and has since collected 58 senior appearances. European exposure arrives during the Europa League campaign, including a key semi-final contribution.
In the Europa League semi-final second leg, Manzambi scores in a 3-1 win over Braga that sends Freiburg into the final. Freiburg then lose the showpiece to Aston Villa, but Manzambi receives recognition as the Young Player of the Tournament for performances across the competition.
After the Bosnia-Herzegovina match, Manzambi is asked about Muller’s comments and possible transfer interest. Manzambi keeps the focus on current duties, saying: "I'm still in Freiburg. I'm focused on the World Cup. I don't know what I'll be doing next season." That stance leaves future decisions open.
