Bayern Munich Diaz Eyes Champions League Glory In Bid To Win Everything

Luis Diaz targets Champions League glory with Bayern Munich as they pursue a season of success. With a strong squad, top form, and strategic leadership, Bayern seek European glory while Diaz reflects on past near-misses and the drive to achieve the dream.

Bayern Munich forward Luis Diaz believes the club are fully committed to lifting the Champions League this season, as the Bundesliga leaders prepare for another deep run in Europe and look to add to their 2019-20 triumph over Paris Saint-Germain.

Diaz has first-hand experience of the final stage, having reached the 2022 showpiece with Liverpool, and the attacker now wants to finish on the winning side with Bayern, who are again viewed as leading contenders for the title.

Diaz targets Bayern Munich Champions League glory

Since moving from Anfield to Bayern during the summer, Diaz has delivered strong numbers, with 20 goals and 13 assists from 35 matches across all competitions, placing Diaz among the most effective attacking players in Europe this season.

In the 2025-26 campaign across Europe’s top five leagues, only Michael Olise with 39, Erling Haaland with 40, Kylian Mbappe with 44 and Bayern team-mate Harry Kane with 54 have been involved in more goals than Diaz in all competitions.

The Opta supercomputer underlines Bayern’s status as a major contender, giving the German club a 16% chance of winning the Champions League, second only to Arsenal, who are rated at 27% in the simulations for this season’s tournament.

"Winning the Champions League would be incredible, and we're working hard to achieve that, Diaz told UEFA.com. We are a great club, we have a great team and a good manager. We are one big family, and we are working towards the same goal. We want to win everything. We have to work constantly, while keeping our feet on the ground, because, in modern football, any team can make things hard for you. These days, all the teams are strong, so we have to compete very hard."

That ambition is backed up by recent results at this stage of the competition, as Bayern have suffered only one defeat in their last 12 Champions League round of 16 fixtures, winning 10 and drawing once, which highlights consistent progress in knockout football.

The sole loss in that sequence came against Italian opposition, when Bayern were beaten 1-0 away to Lazio in February 2024, a reminder of the danger posed by Serie A clubs as the German side approach another meeting with a team from Italy.

Bayern Champions League test against Atalanta

Vincent Kompany’s squad now turn attention to Atalanta, with the first leg of their round of 16 tie taking place on Tuesday, and the Serie A club have already removed one German side from the tournament after eliminating Borussia Dortmund in the play-off round.

Bayern enter this tie as Bundesliga leaders and as former European champions from the 2019-20 season, yet Diaz has stressed the importance of maintaining focus, with the player warning that even strong squads must guard against underestimating opponents at this level.

Bayern Champions League push and Harry Kane influence

Kane’s role in Bayern’s European campaign has also been crucial, with the striker directly involved in 33 goals from 33 Champions League appearances for the club, tallying 27 goals and six assists since the beginning of the 2023-24 season.

The England international missed Friday’s league victory over Borussia Monchengladbach because of injury, but Kane has now returned to the squad for the trip to face Atalanta, providing Kompany with an important option in attack for the knockout fixture.

"I admire absolutely everything about him, because I don't think there's currently another striker like him, Diaz said of Kane, who missed Friday's win over Borussia Monchengladbach due to injury but is back in the squad for the trip to Atalanta. He scores goals, he provides assists, he runs, he goes out on the pitch and pings you a pass from 30 yards away. He does everything with the ability he has, but also mentally. I think he's very strong as well. I've also learned a lot from him in that respect and I admire him for that, because he has an incredible mindset. He always wants to win, he always wants to help the team; he runs, he works hard, and thats what's important. Having a player like that on your team gives you a feeling of assurance. He's very good. He can do it all."

As Bayern chase another Champions League crown, Diaz’s form, Kane’s influence and the club’s strong recent record in the knockout rounds combine to support belief within the squad that they can challenge for the trophy again, even while Diaz continues to stress hard work and respect for every opponent.
