Bayern Munich left back David Alaba suffers ankle injury with Austria

London, Sep 8: Carlo Ancelotti's struggle with injuries continue as Bayern Munich left back David Alaba has suffered an ankle injury while on the international break with Austria, the club has confirmed.

The left back injured his left ankle in a collision just before half-time in the 1-1 draw against Georgia on Tuesday, and later medical reports on Wednesday demonstrated that for the time being the Austrian versatile player has to be sidelined for some time.

The club broke the news on their social media side to inform the misfortune, however, did not disclose the return date of the player.

"David Alaba injured his left ankle in Austria's World Cup qualifier against Georgia on Tuesday night and he is currently sidelined," a Bayern statement read.

Alaba's injury will add more woes for manager Ancelotti who is currently without either of his natural left-back choices, as Juan Bernat also is on the sideline as he continues recuperating from lower leg surgery.

Bernat endured a ligament damage in July and will be sidelined for "eight to 12 weeks."

Instead of Alaba and Bernat, 19-year-old Marco Friedl could fill the void of the vacant place, however, veteran right back Rafinha who can also play on the left side of the field also is an option for Ancelotti when Bayern will travel to Hoffenheim on Saturday to maintain their winning run.

However, there is some positive news for the Italian manager as the alleged injured midfielder Sebastian Rudy is cleared of injury who was taken off as a precaution in Germany's 6-0 win over Norway.

And adding a cherry on the cake, another star playmaker James Rodriguez also has come back to full fitness and played a full match in their World Cup qualifier match against Brazil this week who missed the first two matches of this season's Bundesliga campaign.
