Bayern Munich moved close to the Champions League quarter-finals after a ruthless 6-1 away win over Atalanta. Michael Olise dominated the last-16 first leg in Bergamo with two goals and one assist. Bayern’s attack overwhelmed the Serie A side. The Bundesliga leaders now carry a huge advantage into the return match.

Atalanta’s late consolation from Mario Pasalic did little to change the overall picture. Pasalic scored in the third minute of second-half stoppage time, reacting first after Nikola Krstovic’s shot was saved by Jonas Urbig. The goal prevented a clean sheet but barely dented Bayern’s control of the tie.

Olise’s performance again underlined a standout season at this level. Olise is only the second French midfielder in Champions League history with at least seven goal involvements in back-to-back campaigns. Olise’s form stretches beyond Europe. Since the Club World Cup, only Harry Kane, with 50, and Kylian Mbappe, with 43, have more goal involvements in all competitions among players in Europe’s top five leagues. Olise has 37, made up of 15 goals and 22 assists across the season.

Bayern’s second arrived 10 minutes later through Olise. Receiving the ball on the right, Olise moved inside onto the left foot. Olise then curled a precise strike into the bottom-left corner. The finish left Carnesecchi with no chance and reflected Olise’s growing influence on the contest.

Gnabry added the third goal in the 25th minute. Olise slipped a pass behind the Atalanta backline. Gnabry ran clear and lifted the ball over the advancing Carnesecchi. That strike effectively ended the competitive balance, with Bayern three goals ahead before half an hour.

After half-time, Bayern continued to counter with speed. Seven minutes into the second period, Nicolas Jackson led a swift break following Nicola Zalewski’s blocked free-kick. Jackson drove forward and finished calmly to make it 4-0. The move highlighted Bayern’s ability to punish Atalanta on transitions.

Olise struck again just after the hour mark with another curling shot, stretching the advantage further. Bayern then introduced Jamal Musiala, who quickly added the sixth goal in the 67th minute. Jackson delivered a teasing cross from the flank. Musiala arrived in the area and guided the ball home from close range.

The 6-1 result leaves Bayern Munich strongly placed ahead of the second leg of this Champions League tie. Olise’s influence, the team’s finishing, and the statistical profile all point to a dominant night. Atalanta retain slim hope after Pasalic’s goal, but the deficit is substantial against this Bayern side.
