Belgium's Youri Tielemans Cautions Team Against Complacency In World Cup Qualifier Against Kazakhstan

Youri Tielemans warns Belgium to avoid complacency ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan. He stresses the importance of focus and adaptability.

Belgium's national football team is gearing up for a crucial World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan. They lead Group J with 14 points from six matches, just ahead of North Macedonia, who have played one more game. A win in Astana on Saturday would secure their spot in next year's World Cup finals. Despite Kazakhstan's lower standing, Youri Tielemans cautions against underestimating them.

Tielemans emphasised the importance of not taking Kazakhstan lightly, especially since they have a new coach, Talgat Baysufinov, after Stanislav Cherchesov's exit. "Everyone expects us to win here comfortably, but that's not how football works any more," he stated. The midfielder highlighted the need for adaptability as Kazakhstan might change their playing style under new leadership.

Tielemans Warns Belgium of Complacency

Kazakhstan sits with seven points from seven games and cannot finish in the top two. Belgium previously defeated them 6-0 in September. However, Tielemans insists that his team must remain focused and avoid complacency. "We have no excuses within the squad. We just want to win here," he added.

Belgium's coach Rudi Garcia is eager to secure qualification as soon as possible. He expressed his desire to avoid leaving it until their next match against Liechtenstein in Liege three days later. "Not playing at 100% would be a mistake because I don't want to wait until Tuesday to qualify," Garcia remarked.

The significance of qualifying for the World Cup is a major topic among the players. Garcia noted, "A World Cup is quite an experience." He hopes that securing qualification on Saturday will allow the team to focus on future discussions about their journey in the tournament.

Even if Belgium doesn't clinch qualification on Saturday, they have another opportunity against Liechtenstein shortly after. However, both Tielemans and Garcia stress the importance of securing their place without delay. The team's focus remains on achieving victory in Astana and ensuring their path to the World Cup is confirmed swiftly.

As Belgium prepares for this pivotal match, they are aware of the challenges posed by Kazakhstan's potential changes under new management. The team's determination and strategic approach will be crucial in overcoming these hurdles and reaching their goal of World Cup qualification efficiently.
