Jude Bellingham is adjusting his playing style at Real Madrid to support his high-profile teammates. Last season, he was instrumental in Madrid's LaLiga and Champions League victories, scoring 23 goals and providing 13 assists, mainly as a false nine. With Karim Benzema's departure, Bellingham initially played at the top of a midfield diamond alongside Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior as split strikers.
This season, Bellingham has taken on a deeper role following Kylian Mbappe's arrival from Paris Saint-Germain. He now spends just 3% of his time as a striker or attacking midfielder, with 50% in central midfield and 35% on the left flank. In the 2023-24 season, he played 69% of his minutes in an advanced midfield position and 7% as a traditional striker.

Despite these changes, Bellingham remains committed to contributing positively to Los Blancos' success. "It's been like any other adaptation," he told reporters before Wednesday's Champions League match against Liverpool. "It changes the dynamic, the style of play and the approach, but I've shown that I can play in different positions."
Bellingham expressed his willingness to adapt for the team's benefit. "I prefer a bit more up front, but it's not important to me," he said. "I'm willing to play wherever they put me and I'm not affected by the position." He joined Real Madrid last summer after Benzema left, filling a gap in goal-scoring.
With Mbappe now part of the team, Bellingham acknowledges that his role will evolve. "This year we have signed one of the best players of this generation, who has scored an unbelievable amount of goals," he noted. "My role is going to change and I'm totally willing to do that."
Bellingham scored his second goal of the season during Sunday's 3-0 victory over Leganes in LaLiga. Although only Vinicius has surpassed him with six assists for Madrid this season, Bellingham has contributed four assists so far. After their Champions League group-phase match at Anfield, Madrid will face Getafe in LaLiga this weekend.
Bellingham's adaptability highlights his commitment to Real Madrid's success despite positional shifts. His willingness to adjust underscores his dedication to achieving positive results for the team while supporting new dynamics within the squad.
