Ben Davies Signs New Spurs Contract As Yves Bissouma Leaves Free
Tottenham have announced contrasting contract decisions, with Ben Davies signing fresh terms while Yves Bissouma departs as a free agent. Davies, a defender at Spurs since 2014, extends a stay that is set to reach a 13th season, while Bissouma ends a four-year spell following a Europa League triumph and 111 appearances in all competitions.
Davies originally joined Tottenham from Swansea City and has gone on to feature 363 times across all tournaments. Only 20 players have represented the club more often, a group that includes Heung-min Son, Hugo Lloris, Harry Kane and Eric Dier, underlining Davies’ long-standing role within the squad and dressing room.

Tottenham did not reveal the precise length of Davies’ new agreement, but multiple reports on 10 June 2026 indicated a one-year extension. That would keep the Wales international at the club after an injury-hit season, during which Davies was restricted to limited Premier League minutes and spent more time supporting team-mates off the pitch.
"Tottenham Hotspur really feels like home. It's been a huge part of my football journey and I'm grateful for what the club has given me so far in my career," Davies said. "It's been difficult over the past few months, not being able to help the team on the pitch in some tough moments due to injury. So, I tried to help the boys off it as much as I could, being a voice in the dressing room and around the group, contributing in any way I could. My heart's on my sleeve for this club and I'll give everything for it."
The 2025-26 Premier League season was challenging for both Davies and Tottenham. Davies made only three league appearances, having recorded 17 Premier League outings in each of the two previous campaigns. Overall, Davies has featured in 245 league matches for Spurs, starting 199, highlighting consistent selection across several managers and tactical systems.
Tottenham’s recent silverware came in the Europa League last year, a success that ended a 17-year wait for a major trophy. Davies was an unused substitute in that final against Manchester United in Bilbao, but still part of the matchday group. The following domestic season proved difficult, with Spurs avoiding relegation on the final day.
Bissouma’s situation contrasts with Davies, as the midfielder will exit at the end of the contract period without an extension. Signed from Brighton in 2022, Bissouma accumulated 111 Tottenham appearances and scored two goals, both in the Premier League during the 2024-25 season. Bissouma started and completed all 90 minutes in the Europa League final victory in Bilbao.
Alongside the first-team update on Bissouma, Tottenham also confirmed a number of academy departures. Under-21 players Pele Arganese-McDermott, Tyrell Ashcroft, Leo Black, Dante Cassanova, Matthew Craig and Calum Logan will not receive new deals. Their exits mark further changes to the wider squad structure as Spurs reshape both senior and development groups.
| Tottenham player | Status | Key figures |
|---|---|---|
| Ben Davies | New contract | 363 appearances; 245 league games, 199 starts |
| Yves Bissouma | Leaving on free | 111 appearances; 2 Premier League goals in 2024-25 |
These decisions underline different paths for two experienced Tottenham players after a mixed period on the pitch. Davies remains part of Spurs’ plans following a long service that includes a European trophy, while Bissouma and several under-21 players move on as the club prepares its squad for future Premier League and European challenges.
