Bengaluru, November 29: Indian Super League club Bengaluru FC, who qualified to the 2018 AFC Cup by virtue of being the Federation Cup champions, will face Transport United of Bhutan in a two-legged South Asia Zone preliminary round qualifier clash for the 2018 AFC Cup.
The Blues will travel to Thimphu to play the first leg at the Changlimithang Stadium on January 23 2018. The return leg takes place on Jan 30 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.
It will be a tough January for BFC as they are scheduled to play two ISL games in that week. Right after the Jan 23 clash, Bengaluru FC host NorthEast United on Jan 26 at the Kanteerava.
The worrying part though is the next match in Chennai against Chennaiyin FC, which is scheduled for January 31, within 24 hours after the return leg against Transport United in Bengaluru.
There is a possibility that the league will reschedule the game against Chennaiyin FC.
The winners of the tie will then be placed in the South Zone group against three other opponents from the region.
BFC had a good run in the 2016 edition of the tournament, finishing as runners-up after losing to Iraq's Air Force Club. In this year's edition, they went down 2-3 on aggregate to FC Istiklol in the AFC Cup Inter-Zonal Final.
