Bengaluru FC have named their youth squad for the Durand Cup 2023 with a 28-member squad to be led by junior coach Bibiano Fernandez. The new foreign and Indian signings have been added to the team too as AIFF made it mandatory for all the clubs from Indian Super League and I-League to compete in the first top-tier club tournament of the 2023-24 season.
Indian Air Force, led by coach Priya Darshan, have named their senior players for the tournament with a settled core and come into the game to stay relevant in the tournament after losing 0-2 to Gokulam Kerala in the opening game. The Group C has emerged as the group of death at the moment as Gokulam Kerala stunned neighbours Kerala Blasters 4-3 in the Kerala Derby on August 13 at the Mohun Bagan Ground.
By that comparison, this is the easiest of the three games for Bengaluru FC, who will lack the services of their star players, including captain Sunil Chhetri. Eyes will be on the likes of Amrit Gope, Shankar Sampingiraj, who joined the club recently from TRAU FC.
Talented Akash Jha was roped in from Sreenidi Deccan. Vikram Lakhbir Singh and Salam Johnson Singh will also have the opportunity to prove their worth ahead of the new Indian Super League season.
The Air Men will also hope that beside the experience of having played a game at the venue already, their experienced forwards like Mandeep Singh also put their hands up and contribute for a first tournament win.
Coach Priya Darshan exuded confidence on matchday-eve saying, "The players are excited to play against ISL team and defending champions BFC and well prepared to fight and win the game."
